All Grown Up

It is less than a month away from Fiona's 1st Birthday.  I can't believe we will have a 2 yr old and a 1 yr old.  They are getting so big.

Over the weekend Ryan turned Keegan's crib into a toddler bed.  She loves it. The first night she went upstairs and laid right in bed. After asking Ryan to stay with her, she quickly changed her mind and told him to "go downstairs".  She slept there all night until about 5:30 in the morning.  Keegan is doing lots of fun stuff, like saying her ABC's, singing all kinds of songs and we are trying to potty train this week while I am home.

Fiona is standing all the time and has taken a step or two here and there, but not walking just yet.  Lately her personality has really started to shine.  She is officially addicted to her baby doll.  She has to have it all the time, even sleep with it.  Keegan has been bad about taking the baby away from her, but yesterday she learned how to avoid that.  Fiona was playing with her baby yesterday when Keegan came over like she was going to take the baby away, as she reached for it, Fiona held the baby away from Keegan.  Every time Keegan would walk to the other side of Fiona to try and get the baby Fiona would switch hands and would hold the baby just out of Keegan's reach.  Then finally Keegan got a hold of it.  Fiona held on tight and finally won the tug-a-war and happily still had her baby.  She is learning quickly how to deal with her big sister.

Fiona is also becoming a little mischievous.  This morning she was eating blueberries in her highchair and she smiled at me and held a blue berry over the floor as if she was going to drop it on the floor.  I said "No Nuggie" and she quickly brought the blueberry back to the tray.  She continued to do this and was laughing everytime I would say "No Nuggie".  She is testing me and it is so darn cute, I can't help but smile and laugh at her.

I am still learning that Keegan is way smarter than I think she is... I had the freezer opened the other day and she asked me for some ice cream.  I quickly responded with "We don't have any" since it was not time to eat ice cream.  She looked at me a little perplexed and then pointed to the carton of ice cream that I was unaware that she could see from where she was standing and said "Mommy, What is that?"... She shot me a little smile as if she was reminding me that I can't fool her as easily as I think.

We are looking forward to Fiona's 1st birthday over labor day weekend.  We have the cutest decorations. Oh... Check out the new photos of the girls in the right column.  They were taken by my awesome sister Olivia!

Teeth, Zoo and maybe a little walking

So much has been going on since my last post.  Fiona finally sprouted all 4 top teeth basically at the same time.  She still does the "pig face" and shows all of her teeth... We think it is about the cutest thing in the world!  We FINALLY captured a picture of it.

More news on little miss Fiona.... She is finally standing up completely on her own now and even took her first step.  Hoipefully she will be walking very soon! We love watching her grow and learn... everyday she amazes us.

Today, Sunday, we had a great day at the zoo.  Even with disgustingly hot temperatures we were able to enjoy the zoo with Brooke, Phil, Kaylyn, My Mom (Becky), Ryan's Mom (Patti), Lauren and some of her friends from Auburn.  Keegan loved the elephant aerobics and the splash park.  Ryan spent the whole time at the splash park with Keegan waiting in line multiple times to go down the slide.  She is very impatient and would have cut line if Ryan wasn't there to teach her some much needed manners. Little Fiona (as seen in the picture above) LOVED LOVED LOVED the water, as usual.  She was the youngest playing in that area and she was too cute.

This was a good weekend and we are so blessed with wonderful children, friends and family.  We are very lucky.

Keegan is 2

Summer this year has been great! A lot has been going on since my last post.  Fiona is crawling all over the place, standing and loves to jump in bed.  She is also playing patty cake and is on the verge of walking! Keegan is getting so big, she is talking so well and amazes us everyday with speaking in full sentences and of course saying everything we say (which can be bad at times).  She has started to call Ryan by his name every once in a while and while we think it is cute and funny... Ryan likes to be called Daddy!  She has started to sing a lot and loves to sing to Fiona.  She teaches Fiona a lot of things... it is so cute to see them interact.  You can tell how much they love each other.

Yesterday was Keegan's 2nd Birthday! We had a small party with family in the afternoon.  She LOVED all of her presents and ate a ton of cake.  We are so lucky to have great family to celebrate these special events with. Later in the afternoon friends joined the party.  The slip n slide was a hit, Fiona even got to slide down it! Keegan got to play with all her new toys and even stayed up late with us!

We want to Thank everyone who came by and celebrated Keegan's birthday and the 4th of July with us! We love you all and love spending time with you!

A special prayer request... I have a girl friend who is going through a tough time.  She is fighting brain cancer and just gave birth to a baby girl (at 28 wks).  Baby is doing well and Mommy is fighting the cancer all while staying positive and being an amazing mother... She is an inspiration to me.  Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers, she and her family need it right now.

A couple pictures below of the weekend!

Ryan's 10 yr Reunion and Memorial Day!

Happy belated Memorial Day to everyone and a big THANK YOU to all who have fought for our country! You all are awesome!!!!

This weekend we took a roadtrip to Delafield, WI for Ryan's 10 year reunion from St. John's Northwestern Military Academy. The road trip up Friday with the girls was not the best, but not too bad. We arrived a little late, but got settled into our room very quickly.

The next morning, Saturday, we got up early and headed to St John's. Ryan gave us a tour of the campus and we enjoyed meeting his friends. After watching some drills on the field, we headed to the shade for Ryan's class picture. Once those were complete we headed into the mess hall for the luncheon. This is where it started to go downhill with the girls. Keegan started screaming and I had to quickly exit, but not before causing a scene. When we got outside I went to put Keegan down and she had a hold of my dress. So when I stood up my dress fell down exposing myself to 2 young cadets walking across campus. Of course the acted like they did not see, but I'm pretty positive they got a nice treat for the end of their school year. LOL

Ryan met us outside after the luncheon and we headed to the Alumni tent for a refreshment before the parade. At this point the heat had become too much for the girls and I decided to take them back to the hotel for a nap and to calm them down. Ryan stayed and enjoyed the rest of the reunion activities with his friends.

That evening we went out to dinner as a family to a nice restaurant. The girls were actually very good compared to the earlier part of the day. We headed back to the hotel and Ryan then headed out to downtown Milwaukee for a night out with his high school buddies. The girls and I had a night on our own in the hotel. They were actually well behaved and Ryan came home to 3 ladies in bed waiting for him... Every man's dream ;)

The next morning (Sunday) we woke up and headed to Lake Mills, WI for lunch with my good friend Lindsay and her boyfriend Nick. She just graduated with her PhD and I am so happy for her. They suggested this cute little place in the very small town of Lake Mills, WI called Carp's Landing. We lucked out to an all you can eat buffet which included some of the best brisket I have ever had!

From there we headed home to Louisville. It should have been a 7.5 hr drive, but ended up being the worst 10 Hr drive of our lives. The girls obviously do not like long car rides and were just not happy riders. We stopped multiple times to see if we could help, but nothing seemed to work. Fiona may have slept for a short while, but Keegan refused to give in. It became especially horrible when we had about 2 hrs to go. Keegan and Fiona started to scream, literally screaming. Fiona finally gave up after about a 1/2 hr and held a blankie close and watched in amazement to her sister still screaming. At this point we had given up in trying to console and find things to help. She was just not happy and I don't think anything was going to help at this point. We finally hit the bridge on 65-S and Keegan and Fiona were finally out cold. Luckily the transfer from the car to their beds was a smooth one. We could not have been happier to be home.

We learned that our girls do not do well in the car, even with snacks, treats, dvd's, music, books and more. We are going to have to stick to plane rides or leave the girls at home with family if we plan to do a roadtrip.

Yesterday, Monday, was very relaxing. We did nothing and were trying to catch up on some much needed sleep. We took a break from our lazy day to have a nice Memorial Day dinner with my parents. After we got home both girls fell asleep and I followed close behind.

Onto this week and thank goodness for a short 4-day week! Then another busy weekend comes again.

I will post some pics soon of our weekend.

Thankful

I am very thankful for my family and that we have 2 amazing, healthy, beautiful girls. They have been so fun lately. Keegan has started to talk more and more, putting sentences together and learning new words by the minute. She cracks us up with her newest phrase... I gave her a drink of my bitter cranberry juice and I asked her if she liked it, with out missing a beat she looked at me with a stern face and said, "No, I don't like it!". At least she knows how to express her feelings, ha!

Fiona on the other hand is beginning to move around really well, our sitter even told us she is starting to pull up! I can't wait to see that little Nugget walk around! She has become very vocal lately, she screams loudly with excitement and does her little pig face as you may have seen in the video below. That pig face just melts my heart!

Here are some recent pictures of the girls. It's so cute how much you can tell they love each other!

Keegan and Fiona at Sam's Club. Love their big carts with 2 kiddie seats!

Keegan has recently decided she likes to watch TV with her viking hat on ;)

Spring & Derby

Sorry for the total lack of posts. We have been super busy! So I will try and get you all up to date.

Fiona and Keegan were recently sick with allergies and colds. After trying a couple things we found that Claritin for Children works the best and our doctor gave us the OK to use it for both girls! Fiona still has a bit of drainage and coughs a little, but overall they are both basically back to normal!

This week is Derby week and we could not be anymore boring! I have a super busy week at work this week, but besides that we (as a family) have no real plans.

We are still working with Keegan on going potty. For a while she sat in the potty every chance she got and went #1 and #2 a lot, but recently this has decreased. She wil sit on the potty, but not as often and not as long. Our sitter has also been working with her and we are all optimistic that she is still moving in the right direction. She is also talking like crazy. She is talking in sentences and says a lot of new words everyday. It is so cute to hear her talk. We have been amazed by her knowing how to count (well to 3, but we think it is awesome),she also knows her shapes (circle, triangle, square, crescent, star, etc), colors and animals. She is so cute when we go through a book and she knows what all the animals are called.
Our favorite things that Keegan says:
  • Sissy
  • Mine (even though we try to discourage this one)
  • Pee Pee
  • Want some?
  • Otay? (okay)
  • Sorry (she apologizes for everything and it cracks us up)
  • YaYo (which is actually Olivia)

Fiona has been sitting up on her own for a while now. She has recently started to basically crawl. I say basically because she can get where she wants to go, but I am not sure if you would call it crawling! She kinda scoots on her belly or she actually rolls and rolls until she is where she wants to be. It really is a funny thing to see! She has recently started getting up on her knees, so I think she will be darting across the floor before too long. Then hopefully it will be a quick transition to walking!
Fiona has also really started to talk more... she says momma every chance she gets and is still saying bye and da-da every-once in a while too. She is of course blabbing away in her adorable baby talk. Her little personality is really starting to show. She is silly, lovable and super easy to get to laugh. Seriously anything we do she smiles and laughs. She is also on all kinds of foods now. She is eating basically any baby food, cereal, cheerios, yogurt and more. She is our chunky monkey! WE LOVE IT!

Well, i am sure we will have a lot more going on so once again I will promise to try and make at least weekly or more updates!

Oh... Here are some pictures from vacation:

Busy Busy Busy

We have been crazy busy lately...

We returned from a lovely Florida vacation on Wednesday. We went to visit Ryan's grandmother (aka: GG) in Sebastian, Fl. This is where we were married last year, so it was nice to take a vacation there again. I was so incredibly nervous about flying with BOTH girls on our laps via Southwest Airlines, but it could not have gone more smoothly. They both slept the entire way down there!

While on vacation we of course went to the beach, pool, shopping, out to eat and a lot more. Both girls just LOVED the beach and the water. Keegan screamed and cried when we had to leave the beach or pull her out of the pool. She truly was at home in Florida and we can't wait to take them again! On Friday of our vacation we decided to visit the Brevard Zoo. I had found it online before we flew down to FL and was really excited to go. It was by far the coolest zoo I have EVER been to. I felt like I was in a rainforest or jungle the whole time. It was truly amazing and when the girls were not sleeping in their strollers, they loved it too!

The flight home was not as smooth as the 1st, but really no big complaints. The girls were awesome and we finally got some use out of our new portable DVD player that we purchased before the trip.

Then it was on to EASTER!!!!

Easter was both busy and relaxing. We started the day at our house and gave the girls their baskets. Fiona got a couple little toys (all that she could chew on) and Keegan got lots of candy, a toy and some flower seeds to plant in the back yard with Daddy this spring. Both girls also go a cute little picture frame with a mermaid on it, I figured we could put a cute picture from the beach in each of their frames. Keegan proceed to eat candy for breakfast, so we knew we were going to have our hands full later.

After we got ready we headed to my parents house. There they got a kite, candy and the Care Bears movie (MY FAVORITE from my childhood). Keegan had a blast playing outside with Grandaddy and Boo and after we ate both girls laid down for a nap. Since the girls were napping, Ryan and I both ended up taking a nap as well, which was so nice!

After we woke up from our naps we headed to Ryan's grandparents house on his father's side. It is always fun with all the kids on that side of the family. Keegan had so much fun playing with her cousins and got her first skinned knee. She cried for only a second and I took her inside to clean it up and put a Band-Aid on it. No problems until I went to put the Band-Aid on her knee... you would have thought that I smacked her she cried so hard. All I could do was laugh because it was so funny that the Band-Aid was the worst part to her about the whole situation. After a long, but fun day we headed home.

MONDAY WAS A BIG DAY FOR KEEGAN!

We have introduced Keegan to the potty and she actually loves to sit on it! We have not pushed her or really started trying to potty train, but I have been reading about potty training and took the advice of a couple articles I had read and put Keegan's potty in the living room while she watched TV. She immediately wanted to sit on it. So I let her sit there while she watched TV and she looked at me and said "I gotta go Poo Poo" and tried to stand up... I encouraged her to keep sitting and she actually did and then she went POO POO in the potty! WOO HOO.... I know we have a LOOOOOONNNNGGGGGGGG way to go until she is potty trained, but it was so exciting and she was sooooooo proud of herself!

BTW: I will post pictures from our vacation soon. Just have not had time yet. Check back soon!

My Angels are perfect Flyers

We flew to Florida today to visit Ryan's grandmother and the flight down was amazingly perfect! You would have thought the girls fly every week! I was so nervous about the flight since we were flying with both girls on out laps!

We landed and the Orlando airport was a madhouse! There were so many inconsiderate people there! For example we were trying to get off an elevator to get our baggage and people would not let us off the elevator, they just walked on and pushed us... And I was holding Keegan and pushing Fiona in a stroller. I seriously almost freaked out!

After the fiasco at the Orlando airport we packed ourselves in Laura's car and headed to Sebastian!

We have already had an amazing time and we have been here for less than 24 hours!

Tomorrow's agenda include the beach, pool and more! Yay!

Dora, Elmo and Fraggles oh my!

Keegan is starting to get used to the headphones and the portable DVD player. We have been gearing her up for the plane ride to Florida. We have Elmo, Dora and Fraggle Rock DVD's to hopefully entertain her. Tonight she actually watched the DVD player for over an hour with out taking off the headphones and as she was watching Dora tonight I could not help but be amazed at how much she was actually learning from the DVD. She began to count and then I noticed her answering basic questions that Dora was asking like yes or no and pointing out items on the screen! She also said a couple new words: backpack, Dora and map! She laughed, clapped and let out screams of delight! It's amazing how much a DVD that drives adults nuts can be so entertaining to a toddler! She is 20 months now and she still amazes me everyday! I love it, I love her and I love being a MOM! It's the best job I have ever had!

Picture of Keegan watching Dora on the portable DVD player. Her hair was a little wild since I had just taken it out of a palm tree on top of her head!

Fiona's 6 month check-up

Fiona is as healthy as can be besides a little allergies (like her mommy). She is now 17lbs, 10oz and 26-3/4" long! That is the 75-90th percentile. The doc said she is right on track for development and was impressed with how happy she was! Well... The happiness didn't last long when she got her 3 shots! Poor baby!!!!!! But she only cried for a second and she was mommys little angel again.

We took advantage of having the doctor's attention to ask him about tips for flying with both girls since we are going to Florida by airplane soon. His only advice was distraction! We hopefully will have that covered- We bought a Portable DVD player for Keegan to watch Elmo and Dora. We also got her a new book and some new crayons to color in her coloring books. I read that wrapping the new toys will help in the excitment and help keep her attention longer. Since we decided to fly with both girls in lap since they are both under two we really hope they work! WISH US LUCK!

We have a talker on our hands

Keegan has been talking for a while, but she is really become a little chatter box in the last couple of weeks. Her new words consist of: Sissy, Good Morning, pull, home, Keegan, Fiona, pants, shirt, bath and a lot more! We love hearing new words she can say. It is daily now that she says something new and is also putting words together to form more and more sentences.

Fiona on the other hand did say Mama a couple times, but hasn't said much lately. She is talking a lot of baby talk recently so we don't think it long before she starts saying a few more words!

We are going to Florida at the end of March to visit Ryan's grandmother, Laura. We are so ready for a vacation and can't wait to spend a whole week with the girls. I have been doing a lot of research to find fun kid oriented things to do.

If you are familiar with Sebastian, Vero Beach or Melbourne Fl and have any suggestions, let us know!

It's been a while... nice to be back!

WOW.... It has been a while since my last post. I guess I have been pretty busy lately. I am not going to try and update you with everything that has been going on, but I can tell you that we got back our pictures from Olivia's photoshoot the other weekend. They are SOOOOOO FUN and GREAT! See a couple pictures below from the shoot. I promise I will keep up with this blog better from now on.

A very big girl

I hate to admit it, but Keegan is becoming a little girl instead of my little baby. She says more and more everyday and she wants to do things by herself. She also likes to do everything that Mommy and Daddy do. So we are being more and more aware of our own bad habits, because she picks them all up and immitates us. She loves watching me do my make-up every morning and demands to have her make-up done too. Occasionally when I'm not looking this is what I find:

She cracks me up and is actually very good at not knocking anything over and getting up on the toliet how I do my make-up.

Another big girl thing Keegan does is color. She loves it and it keeps her occupied pretty well. We went to my parents and picked up a desk from my childhood. She loves it and sits in it every chance she gets.

We also have noticed that she really likes anything her size and loves when she finds a small chair or even a ledge that is just her size. We did, however, catch her trying to sit in a Barbie chair and had to remind her that she is not that little. HA! We decided it was time to get her a comfy type of seat for the living room. We decided to go with a bean bag. She loves it and even Fiona loves to sit in it too. It was a good purchase.

So my little baby is growing up and I have a love/hate relationship with it.

Saturday = Awesome

Saturday was a good day. Fiona woke up a little early and then went backup sleep with Ryan and I. A couple hours later both girls woke up, I fed them, then I started a nice big breakfast for Ryan & myself. We had cheesy eggs, bacon and biscuits! Soon after breakfast Keegan, Fiona and I all took a nap. We LOVE our weekend naps!

When we woke up I got Keegan ready for her lunch date with my Dad (grandaddy). She was a little fussy so to keep her happy while dressing her and doing her hair we kept telling her she was cute and her hair was cute. After we were done she looked over at me, puts her hands behind her back and swings back and forth and says "I cute, I cute, I cute!". All I could do was laugh and think about how we have created a little monster! ;)

They went to lunch and Fiona was once again napping, so I took advantage of that time to shower and get ready for a special dinner date with Ryan! When Keegan returned she was worn out from lunch and playing with Grandaddy.

After a while we got the girls and ourselves ready and dropped the girls off at my parents while we went out for our special dinner.

Ryan and I treated ourselves to The Melting Pot! It was sooooooooooooooooo good! We started with the Wisconsin Trio fondue cheese, then we each had a delicious salad. Our main course was amazing, we had Lobster, Filet Minot, NY strip, Chicken, Bratwurst, Shrimp and Veggies. We ended dinner with the Flaming Turtle. It was an amazing dinner, with great food and it was nice to have a wondeful dinner alone with my husband.

Overall... It was an Awesome Saturday!

Fiona's got it under control

Our little Nugget (Fiona) recently began holding her own bottle. She does not do it all the time and she is not to the point where we can leave her to drink the entire bottle her own, but she is close and we are so proud of her. On one hand I am so happy to see her progress and watch her grow, but on the other hand I am sad that she needs me less and less everyday. Everyone tells you it goes by fast and you can get annoyed by everyone telling you that, but it is so true.

Nugget is also still getting used to eating real food. For the last couple of weeks we have been feeding Nugget rice ceral ever so often. She still does not get how to eat the food instead of spitting it out, but she is getting better. We soon think she will be eating a lot. Once she gets the hang of the rice ceral we plan on starting with Some veggies and then once she has those down we will then start fruit.

Stinker (Keegan) has been so cute in this process. As we feed Nugget her food Stinker encourages her with mmmmmm's. It is too cute. And when Nugget does not eat all of her food Stinker is ready to finish it off for her!

It is so fun having two girls and seeing how they interact. I know it will only get better and better.

Being a Mom is my calling

I ask myself everyday why I am so lucky to have two amazing, healthy and beautiful girls. I am amazed by them everyday. They surprise me everyday and everyday I love them more and more if that is even possible.

Ever since I was a little girl all I dreamed about was being a mother, having lots of babies and an amazing family. Dreams really do come true. I hope to have more babies one day, but we are on a break for at least 3 years.

I have a love hate relationship with my girls getting bigger! On one hand I LOVE watching them grow and learn, but on the other hand I HATE that they are growing so fast. I love my little bitty babies and love having an infant in the house, but it will be so nice to have a small break from the hard work an infant entails.

Thank you to all my wonderful friends and family! You ALL are amazing and have been so helpful in Ryan and my adventures of parenthood.

Happy Weekend to Everyone!

Playing in the SNOW!

It snowed close to 5inches in Louisville this week! I think if it is going to be cold, it better snow... so this was great! I got Keegan all bundled up and she could barely move. She just laid there and refused to get up. It was too funny!
Keegan has seen snow before, but this was the first time she was able to go out and play in it! At first she did not know what to think and just stood there, but soon she got used to it and began to run around and enjoy it! We were at my parents house so she was able to play with Jack and Zoe in the back yard.
Keegan fell and got snow all over her gloves and she demanded to take them off. I was okay with this since we were about to go in anyways, but of course the fun ended when Keegan fell again and did a face plant in the snow. She wanted to go in immediately after that! HA! The picture below actually show to process of the fall.

We can't wait for both girls to be big enough to play together in the snow and to even go sledding! We have a lot to look forward to!

Here is a video of the 1st fall and the reason she took off her gloves:

Our Baby Girl is Growing Up Fast!

Tonight we started Fiona on Rice Cereal. We sat her in the high chair and she sat there like a big girl! She did not fall over or anything. She was one happy baby.

Then it was on to try the Rice Cereal. At first she did not want to open her mouth for the spoon, but soon figured it out. She did not really grasp the concept of eating the rice cereal, just kind of let it sit in her mouth. We got some video... See below. We will continue to try the Rice Cereal every night and know that soon she will be eating it like a champ!

Healthy Babies!

Thursday both girls had their check-ups. Keegan's 18 month and Fiona's 4 month check-up.

Keegan weighed in at 27lbs (70th percentile) and is 34 1/4" tall (97th percentile). That is an increase of 1.5lbs and 1 1/4 inch since our last visit at 15 months.

Fiona weighs in at 15.6lbs (90th percentile) and is 25" tall (75th percentile). That is an increase of 3.7lbs and 2 inches since our last visit at 2 months.

Fiona did fantastic and just adored Dr. Nick Hinkebein. She cooed, laughed and smiled ear to ear at Dr. Nick. Almost like she was flirting. Keegan was another story, she did not want him to look at her, touch her or look in her ears, eyes, mouth, etc. Overall, both girls are very healthy. This appointment also marked the start of some exciting things for the girls. Keegan is ready to start thinking about and introducing a Toddler Bed and we can also start introducing the potty. We already purchased a potty and she seems interested, so we are already on a start with that one. We know that she is not going to go in the potty anytime soon and we are not going to push her at all. Just want her to be familiar with it. Fiona on the other hand can start eating rice cereal! YAY!
